Where you lead, I will follow

When the signs of the times are confusing

and I don’t know which way to go –

where you lead, I will follow.

When the clouds of my tears are blurring

and they fall like rain on my pillow –

where you lead, I will follow.

When the dread of Covid is paralyzing

and I don’t know if I can face tomorrow –

where you lead, I will follow.

When the fear of getting cancelled is lurking

and one wrong word is a deathblow –

where you lead, I will follow.

When the bills on my desk are multiplying

and ever dwindling is the cashflow –

where you lead, I will follow.

When the security of my job is fleeting

and I’m one day away from furlough –

where you lead, I will follow.

When words exchanged left me bleeding

and my heart is pierced with an arrow –

where you lead, I will follow.

When the slavery of my idols is mocking

and my sin has left me hollow –

where you lead, I will follow.

When my troubles seem to be multiplying

and I could sure use a hero –

where you lead, I will follow.

Closing thoughts

God is shaking all that can be shaken, so that only what is unshakable remains (Hebrews 12:25-29).

It’s not just you. We’re all being shaken to the core.

But this is good. It’s God’s way of winnowing the wheat from the chaff.

Don’t be afraid.

Whatever you go through, whatever comes next…

just stay faithful to your baptismal/marital vow to Jesus:

where you lead, I will follow.
